sound and other general university

Here are a few projects I have worked on at Massey:

Interface and Interaction
In this class, we were tasked with designing and building different hardware and software projects. My two favorite projects from this class were the reverb guitar pedal and the ruler roller. The reverb pedal was especially fun as I had never developed something that manipulated sound before. As part of that project, I was responsible for both the pedal design and the hardware design. I built the pedal and used skills I had learned at Massey to solder and design a PCB board. Similarly, with the ruler roller, we had to use mechanical components controlled by MIDI to make noise. I also worked on much of the hardware design for this project. Below are some images of the project.

Sound and Lighting
During my time at Massey, I had the opportunity to work with others and also on my own, creating music and making it sound good. During our sound courses, we learned various techniques for microphones, mixing, and recording. In our second year, our major project was to record bands in different ways. We recorded three songs: the first using a single microphone, the second with a limited drum setup, and the third with a full setup. This taught me the different ways that music can be recorded. A video of a mix I did will be below.
Furthermore, we did a lot with live sound. This gave me the opportunity to dive deeper into my craft and use some pretty cool gear along the way. Below is also a video of me using a DIGICO SD10 and a post-production mix of the song that I mixed live as well. In terms of lighting, we learned how to use a GrandMA2 console. This experience has given me the confidence to operate a lighting console and has made it easier for me to understand other lighting consoles and rigging fixtures.
