A Bit About Lachlan
My name is Lachlan and I am a wellington based audio engineer with over 4+ years experience within live sound.
Over the past four years, I have immersed myself in the world of sound technology, gaining a wealth of knowledge and practical experience. My journey began at a local church, where I first discovered my passion for audio engineering. This initial exposure provided me with invaluable insights into the fundamentals of live sound, digital consoles, patching, and stage setup.
At Lifeswitch, I have been actively involved for over four years, developing my skills in real-world environments. My responsibilities include mixing for weekly Sunday services, coordinating sound for special events like our weeklong camp survivor, and contributing to various youth and worship nights. These experiences have honed my abilities to adapt to different settings and requirements, allowing me to understand the nuances of sound in diverse contexts. For more about my work at Lifeswitch, please look at my blog page.
During my time at Massey University, I have further expanded my expertise in sound technology. My studies have encompassed a broad range of topics, including studio recording, mixing techniques, personal development, and the intricacies of hardware and software design. Specifically, I have engaged in the following areas:
- Software and Coding:
Learning programming languages and software
- Hardware Design and Development:
Exploring the technical aspects of audio equipment, from conception to implementation.
- Live Audio Engineering:
Gaining hands-on experience in managing live sound, including troubleshooting and real-time mixing.
- Recording and Studio Engineering:
Understanding the principles of studio recording, including microphone placement and mixing music for streaming.
- Music History and Economics:
Studying the evolution of music and its current economic landscape within Wellington and around the world.
These experiences at Massey have not only enhanced my technical abilities but have also fostered my personal growth as an audio professional. I go into more information about specific project from my time at the university on my blog and projects page/s.
I am fully competent with using DAW’s such as Pro-Tools, Logic, Reaper and FL Studio.
I am fully also fully competent with using Live Sound Consoles Such as - Digico SD stealth core range such as the SD10 and SD12. I am also fully competent on Allen and Heath SQ and DLive series of consoles. I am also fully competent on MIDAS M32/X32 consoles. I am a fast learner and can pick up any console and be proficient at using them within a very short amount of time.
As I continue to pursue a career in sound technology,(specifying within the studio and live sound space) I am excited to use my knowledge and experiences to contribute within the audio engineering side of the music industry.
